Throughout the 20th century, national productivity, measured by output per hour worked, rose consistently. However, since 2007 something dramatic has happened in that productivity has basically failed to improve and has stagnated. Governments of all persuasions have tried initiative after intiative to rectify the situation - without any success!
So what can you do to improve productivity either to stay in business, increase output from scarce resources, improve margins/profit or pay higher wages?
- The first obvious, but not very clever options are cost-cutting, wage suppression, job sharing, redundancies and just working harder and faster. But what are you going to do when eventually all these options are exhausted - as you're probably already discovering.
- You could then run around like the preverbial headless chicken randomly 'fixing' whatever appears to be the problem?
- Or you could step back, spend half a day on this free '21st Century Leaders' taster workshop and gain some valuable insights into determining where your 'bottlenecks' are, how they are strangling your output and then condsider how you can elevate them to improve your throughput and raise productivity.
