Climate Change and pension funds – are we all helping to fuel climate change?

With increasing concern about Climate Change and recognition of the need to keep fossil fuels in the ground in order to meet the Paris 2015 agreed targets, the Fossil Free divestment movement is growing, and challenging the fossil fuel industry. From Huddersfield University to New York City, institutions are pulling out of investments in fossil fuels and divesting their portfolios.

Ali Stopher and Chayley Collis from Fossil Free West Yorkshire Campaign look at the how the global #FossilFree movement is helping to de-legitimise and take away the social licence of the fossil fuel industry. They will give an overview of divestment successes to date as well as sharing updates on the growing political support for the campaign, which is calling on the local authority West Yorkshire Pension Fund to divest.
